MSCLGY

Culturally unspecific music you might be able to dance to.

Oh the missed opportunity!

The xylophone. Where did it come from? Africa? Asia? Polynesia? Somewhere else? It’s so murky but there are so many interesting stories. Such a rich cultural history yet how do Western schools teach it? Based on my experience, from a Western orchestral approach. Or even worse, as a toy.

This is not a toy! This is a missed opportunity to include elements of curriculum that are non-Western. A rich cultural learning experience awaits our young generation of Europeans and non-Europeans. An amazing, affordable resource for teaching world music, so often overlooked without a second thought.
